Responsible use
What Augis is for, and where it stops.
Rules for using public-source and breach intelligence lawfully, proportionately and without harming people.
1Purpose
Augis makes public and exposed information easier to find and connect. That capability comes with responsibility. This policy sets out what Augis may be used for and what it may not, and it is part of the Terms of Service.
Three principles apply to every lookup: it must be lawful, it must have a legitimate purpose, and it must be proportionate to that purpose.
2Permitted uses
- Official investigations by government and public agencies, carried out within their legal powers.
- Investigations by professionals with proper authorization, within the law.
- Due diligence on the people and organizations behind a deal, a hire or a transaction, within the law.
- Journalism, research and fraud prevention that respect the law and the rights of the people concerned.
3Prohibited uses
- Stalking, harassing, threatening or tracking a person without a legitimate reason.
- Doxxing: compiling or publishing someone's information to intimidate, expose or endanger them.
- Using credentials, tokens or personal data found through Augis to access accounts or systems that are not yours.
- Impersonation, fraud, extortion or any attempt to cause financial or personal harm.
- Making decisions with legal or similarly significant effect on a person, such as employment, credit, housing or insurance, based on Augis results alone. These are regulated activities Augis is not designed or certified for.
- Targeting minors.
- Using Wake to harass, extort or target a person, or presenting its inferences as proof of who owns a wallet.
- Reselling, redistributing or bulk-extracting results outside the product.
- Anything that would be illegal without Augis. It is just as illegal with it.
4Your legal responsibilities
You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you and to the people you look up. In particular, if you handle personal data you must have a lawful basis for doing so, collect no more than you need, use it only for the purpose you had, and keep it no longer than necessary.
Some professions and sectors have additional rules on investigating individuals. Know the ones that apply to you before you use the service.
5Handling results
- Treat results as leads to verify, not as facts. Identifiers can be shared, reused or mistyped, and sources can be wrong or outdated.
- Be careful not to attribute a result to the wrong person.
- Store exports securely and delete them when you no longer need them.
- Do not republish personal data you obtained through the service.
6Credentials in breach data
Augis does not display passwords, hashes or tokens. Those values are redacted on our servers before a result reaches your browser. Do not attempt to obtain them by other means, and never try to use credentials found in a breach to sign in anywhere.
7Removal and abuse reports
If you believe information about you is being misused through Augis, or you are being harassed by someone using it, tell us through contact@augis.eu. Include enough detail for us to investigate. We review reports in good faith and act on clear misuse.
Removal of information from a third-party source has to be requested from that source. We can help identify where a result comes from.
8Enforcement
We may warn, restrict or permanently ban accounts that breach this policy, without refund, and we may preserve relevant records. Where the law requires it, we cooperate with law enforcement investigating misuse of the platform.
